The Miraculous Medal, also known as a Miraculous Medal of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (French: Médaille miraculeuse de l'Immaculée-Conception), is a Roman Catholic devotional medal which was created by Catherine Laboure (1806–1876) in 1830[3] and approved by Pope Gregory XVI in 1832. According to the Archdiocese of New York, "Our Lady of Mt. Carmel appeared to St. Simon Stock in 1251 with the promise that those who wore her image would be preserved from harm during life and especially at death." The original is kept in the Royal Chapel of Dreux.
